Social Media and its growing influence

It would seem that more than we know it, social media has taken the front seat, handled the steering, and is pushing our lives in the direction it wants. The worst part is that social media is in the hands of those who's major concern is profit. Thus, they pick the stories about death, about killings, all wrongs that exists and feed them to us because they know that the human mind craves for such. What they don't know (I'd like to think like that, excuse them for this) is that such negativity is adversely affecting the people's way of life.

Cultures are evolving and with the increase in knowledge and information, crueler people are emerging. Instead of thinking of ways to better the status quo, they device machineries that are mirror images of diabolism.

I cringe when I imagine that killings now seem so normal. Just this evening, someone popular was killed. Two shots to the head. People gathered. From his surname, I think I might know someone in the family because we stayed in that area before. Two days to the new year and this happened.

Yet, there was a time when getting and owning guns was a luxury too risky to aspire to. Only hunters had them, locally made they were, and used to hunt animals and not humans.

A dream's been halted, a family put into sudden sorrow. I wish the story us different. I wish people have hearts that abhors evil.

How do you feel watching the life ebb out of someone. It takes a soulless being to do that. And maybe their souls no longer exists.

It's depressing.

The movies have had their parts to play. Gun violence is made to seem like the path to walk. The one who kills the most walks away as the last man standing and everyone claps.

The child who's never done anything to befit an ovation now believes that becoming a modern-day Rambo is the way to garner encomium. And the worst thing is that it's really had become so.

The proceeds from their acts see them buying the luxury that they couldn't have afforded in a neutral scenario. And people now falls at their feet, kiss their blood-stained legs, and make worship.

But it will have an end. Justice must be served.

Still, we have a part to play: to not allow ourselves be influenced by the negativity traveling on the airwaves and talking to another person to follow in our footstep.

What would you do?
