Completed a short story ghostwriting gig

I spent the early hours of the morning mopping the house. With the pseudo-harmattan, there were ash remains on the verandah and it had found the way into the living room. After that, I showered and then tried to put on the writing cap. It didn’t flow. I had a deadline to meet and words didn’t want to come. It wasn’t even the main work. I wanted to do the outline so I could go on a stretch when I begin. It wasn’t until late in the afternoon that I told myself I’d just write. That’s when the fountain started flowing. It reminded me of what Stephen Kings said about amateur writers waiting for inspiration ‘while the rest of us get up and do the work.’ So, I wrote. It was a slow process. That’s quite understandable as I haven’t been writing fiction in a while. I believe I’ll pick up speed as I progress. I want to get this posted before 12am.i might come back to add more content.  So, I ended up writing 2500+ words today.

Still acclimatizing

So, it's January 12 and I haven't really gotten up to the goals I set to myself for the new year. I hope I can do better in the coming days. I couldn't write much today because we had an in-house meeting that I had to be present for (some grammar machismo frown at ending a sentence with a preposition but what do I care?). Client called me that I missed some words and that some sentences wear unreadable. It happened that I had been dozing off while I wrote those article and many of the words came out jumbled. It was a total mess and I had to redo the work over again. Remind me next time not to work very late in the night. Also, there was another part of the work that I skipped without even knowing it. So, I had to go back and had that included in all of them. Luckily, jt didn't take me more than 30 minute and I was able to resolve it all and sent the work again. I haven't heard from him since then. I hope he takes it in good faith. This was supposed to be a month whe

Building Streak

It's another new year. Another year to try and achieve goals. Couldn't get everything done in 2020. However, there's another opportunity to try.  If I consistently do something everyday that advances the goal, no matter how small, in a matter of time, a streak is built. One thing about streaks is that when you have one going, especially after going a significant distance, you don't want to break it. Soon, it becomes an habit.  If I write a thousand words everyday, it might look small. However, when you calculate that after 365 days, that's 365,000 words, more than many people will write in their lifetime.  And it's not just for writing. It could be for anything; walking to loss weight, praying, learning a new skill, anything. It just need that small step.  And taking it a bit further, we (silly me. I meant I) can combine several goals and have streaks running from them. It doesn't have to begin big but we build on them over time. DWS wrote over 1.5 million C
